A quick Google search turns up various “steps” to accomplish important things. Isn’t it amazing that a task that seems impossible to accomplish can quickly be done by breaking whatever it is into the series of steps it will take?
It's because steps are simply how our brains cope with the hugeness of an important goal. Have you ever survived wedding planning for a daughter? Steps got you there.
Ever felt intimidated by the syllabus at the start of a new class in college? Daily and weekly steps got you through.
Ever faced a cancer diagnosis. Horrible steps, but taking them one at a time was the only way to make progress toward killing the cancer.
Besides helping our brains make sense of a huge task, having a list of necessary steps helps kick our energy and passion into gear, too.
As Christ Followers, we know we are saved for a purpose. If we’re honest, some days it seems easy. At other times, it all seems nearly impossible. But our Lord had compassion on us
and stated clearly our purpose in life here with Him.
It comes from Matthew 22:36-40. When Jesus was being tested by the expert in the law about the greatest commandment, He responded: “You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
One of the easiest ways to love the Lord our God with all that makes us “us” is going closer to Jesus each day. There are many ways to love our neighbor, but so much of that can be
summarized as making disciples.
With those big purposes from Jesus, there are four simple steps we can follow on an easy or difficult day. Take your Bible to receive, reflect, respond and reveal.
Isn't it like the Lord to keep things simple and straightforward? These steps can be done anytime and anywhere you can have some peace and quiet.
