Know Him: Truth on Trial

Read Matthew 26:63-64
But Jesus remained silent. And the high priest said to him, "I adjure you by the living God, tell us if you are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus said to him, "You have said so. But I tell you, from now on you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven."
Reflect
· Consider how your own disobedience is like a "slap in the face" to our Holy Lord. What must we all do to nurture a right relationship with Jesus?
· Think about some ways that the Lord has been faithful in your life. Was there a time when His forgiveness seemed too good to be true; something you had a difficult time believing and accepting? (Explain your answer.)
· Do you trust Jesus?
Imagine how alone Jesus must have felt. His friends doubted and even betrayed Him; the very people He came to save spit in His face. It never occurred to anyone that chilly morning that Christ's claims just might be true. Even though they had seen and witnessed His miracles--and despite the fact that they had marveled at His teachings--those who put Jesus on trial were spiritually blind. They refused to see the truth. Still, two comforting facts emerge from today's hostile scene:
Jesus is who He claims to be. Therefore, we must acknowledge that He is Lord and give Him the glory and honor He deserves. Hebrews 1:3 tells us, "The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." And Jesus said, "If you've seen me, you've seen the Father."
Jesus proves that He loves us wildly. He loves us despite our mixed-up hearts. He loves us when we shake our fists at Him and spit in His face. He loves us no matter what. He loves us so much, He hurts when we hurt. God's love is something no one can fully grasp. And because of it, He forgives our sin through Jesus Christ and graciously brings us back into fellowship with Him. Abandoning His unholy, imperfect children is unthinkable to God--just as it was unheard of to the father of the prodigal son. It's this radical love that took Him to the cross.
Pray
Lord Jesus, we know we can find comfort in the fact that you will never turn your back on us. Ask Jesus to show you how to lean on an old, familiar truth: "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.' The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress" (Psalm 46:10-11).
