An Invitation to Make a Lasting Difference
As we prepare and reflect on Thanksgiving, it’s clear that gratitude needs to be more than just a feeling. It becomes a choice and ultimately a lifestyle—to see God’s hand in every part of our lives, even in the challenges.
That’s the conclusion I had to come to during chemotherapy eight years ago. Some part of that time comes to mind each month when I go to the cancer center for a vitamin B shot. Back in those heavy days, I had to walk through the door while concentrating on my slightly modified verse: “This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24).
The Apostle Paul urges us to this, as well: “Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances…” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). Some would say gratefulness is more difficult in the hard times. However, I wonder if it is equally difficult in the good times—because without a habit of gratefulness, it seems equally hard to remember God when things are going well.
But as the devotionals in this newsletter remind us, our faith calls us to live out a spirit of thankfulness that not only changes us but impacts those around us.
We’ve seen firsthand the power of this perspective in the last few weeks. In a test outreach to a radio network’s online audience, over 600 people responded to our Spiritual Fitness CheckUP. Each response represents a real person, searching for spiritual answers and looking to God’s Word for hope. This strong response shows us how much people are yearning for help in growing closer to Jesus. I’m very grateful for this and something else—your support that made the test possible. Such outreach reminds people that they’re not alone in their struggles.
This Thanksgiving, as you celebrate with family and friends, I invite you to join us in something special—a movement that goes beyond ourselves. By making a financial gift, you are stepping into the role of a hero in someone else’s story. You’re helping to carry the message of hope, love, and truth found in Christ to those who need it most. Your support allows us to share the Good News with people who feel stuck, discouraged, or who are struggling to find peace. What a meaningful way to live out your gratitude while impacting others.
Each time you give, you help us refine tools like the Spiritual Fitness CheckUP or components of the personalized, daily spiritual fitness programs designed to support people right where they are in their journey. Together, we are helping break cycles of discouragement, critical attitudes, and too much reliance on others for direction in spiritual growth. Our partnership inspires individuals to take personal responsibility, knowing that God has equipped each of us to disciple, encourage, and mentor others in simple but profound ways. Imagine the ripple effect your gift will have—encouraging a young believer to stay strong in the faith, offering guidance to someone wrestling with doubt, or bringing joy to a new Christian finding their way.
Your generosity means that, instead of journeying alone, they have a network of support behind them each step of the way. When you give to Back to the Bible, you’re not just supporting a ministry, you’re making a direct, eternal impact on lives.
This Thanksgiving, may your heart overflow with gratitude. And if you feel moved, join us in making a difference that reaches beyond the season. Your gift today will plant seeds of hope, courage, and faith in people’s lives, helping them discover the fullness of life in Jesus.
