Ruler of All Things

Published 7/16/19

By: Michael and Tiffany Ross

“But you, Bethlehem. . .out of you will come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.”

Family Quest

Have each family member dress up like a ruler (robe, scepter, crown, etc.). Take turns playing “Ruler Says” (like you would play Simon Says).

Talk It Out

· How did it feel to be a ruler?

· What does a good ruler do? What does a good shepherd do?

· Talk about Jesus’ humble birth compared to how most rulers were born in His day.

· How can you allow Jesus to be your Ruler and Shepherd?

Parent-Child Connection

Power can make people do crazy things. As you played this game, you probably noticed the ways that different family members’ personalities came out. This is a great chance to talk about how God is different from any other ruler—ever! He doesn’t abuse His power. Instead, He uses it to save us.

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being a good Ruler and Shepherd, and (2) ask the Lord to help her follow His leadership every day.
