Read John 16:33
"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world."
Reflect
• How does it make you feel knowing that Jesus has overcome the world?
• Do you trust that He is with you during times of trouble?
• Can you pray a prayer of surrender with confidence? (Explain your answer.)
Our world is broken and dysfunctional. Bad things happen to good people. Sin is all around us. So, it's hard to imagine "on earth as it is in heaven" as we read the Lord's Prayer (Matthew 6:10). God's kingdom is a place of perfect justice and truth, and at the end of time, all things will be set right. Injustices will be made right, sins will be forgiven, and illnesses will be healed. But could this be a reality today? For many, praying this verse is hard.
Yet the truth is, even when all seems out of control right now, Jesus has never left us--and He never will! We can pray confidently every verse of the Lord's Prayer. We can surrender all to Him. That's where God wants our heart. He wants us to be at peace with Him, confident that whatever happens during the day can be handled ... together.
The Bible tells us that in this world, we will have trouble (John 16:33). But with Jesus fully placed at the center of our universe (instead of ourselves), we can be confident that He has overcome the world. So, with that confidence firmly implanted in our heart, we can face anything the world and our circumstances bring to us.
Pray
Lord, Jesus, today is Your day, and I want Your will to be done. So, whatever happens, hold my hand and let's face it together. Amen.
