Three-in-One

Published 7/23/19

By: Michael and Tiffany Ross

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Family Quest

Conduct an experiment in the kitchen. Examine the three forms of H2O. First, hold and study an ice cube. Then place your hands under running water. Third, watch the mist of steam as it rises from a pan of boiling water (from a safe distance, of course). Now think of the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t just take on three different forms; He is all three Persons at the same time. Amazing!

Talk It Out

· How can God be all three Persons at the same time?

· Which Person is here on earth with us right now?

· How would you explain the Trinity to someone?

Parent-Child Connection

There is no specific passage in scripture that uses the word Trinity. But the idea is woven throughout the Word. God even speaks of Himself in the plural during the creation story in Genesis 1–3. There is no simple way to explain the Trinity other than to recognize that God is multifaceted and possesses capabilities beyond our understanding. We can all rejoice that He has chosen to reveal His three Persons for our benefit.

Talk to God

As you pray, encourage your child to (1) thank Jesus for being so big and mighty and (2) ask the Lord to help him appreciate what He has done for him.
